The most important teacher of my life was my second grade teacher, Miss Virginia Camajani. Probably in her 60s at the time, she ferried me to and from school illegally in her personal car when my mother was on what we thought was her death bed. She tutored me an hour before school started in the morning to get me caught up for many absences due to parental illness. She had a big huge sign up at the front of the classroom by the chalkboard, that said in big capital letters, MYOB. it’s stood for “mind your own business “

Miss Camajani had a heart of gold despite her gruff ways. MYOB was probably one of the most important lessons I ever learned, and her coloring outside the lines probably influenced me in many ways. I had a number of “old battle axe” teachers.
