I always joke with my husband that we found each other for two reasons...he was a very sick asthmatic and I came from a traumatic childhood...I made him healthier to the point that he has not used a puffer for years....used to be on two different puffers, anti-histamines, Nyquil, Tylenol for headaches and very unhealthy diet....he loves, cares, and protects me and makes me feel SAFE...he is not violent, kind and our home is peaceful...peace is all I ever wanted and now I have it....he wanted health and now he has it....so, I am soo glad you are the reason your husband is still here Dr. Hughes....lucky guy...…❤
I’m a military spouse, and I’m sick of how they’ve treated my husband and the rest of the force as lab rats, not just now but throughout history. I’m sorry you had to deal with this, I don’t have any faith in the VA. Also, I’m angry at how expensive our broken system is. We have the worst of all worlds- corporate greed with government over-regulation.
It is not that they don’t care: they actively create structures which harm. Education systems addle student’s brains. Regulatory agencies protect those harming citizens. Subsidized food maximizes toxicity.
Disheartening till we realize this is the pattern and this is unconventional war.

The US DOD hires poor Americans for Hara-kiri rituals but tells them that they are serving their country. When they die it's OK. If they're injured, the VHA just ignores them but uses the latest veterans' "health" statistics to request a budget increase. That's how it works and the army recruits should be aware of the true facts...
I updated the below Medical Mafia horrors with this entry:
I'm so sorry you and your husband went through all that at such a personally devastating time, it's wrong for so many reasons. Sadly, I think you're ultimate conclusion is correct, they simply don't care.
I was disgusted by how they treated the atomic veterans too, anything to get out of paying. And it had to be an approved cancer type (!). I looked into this several years ago and a popular trick was to destroy the dosimeters.
"Many atomic veterans sought help from the Veterans Administration to pay for medical treatments. However, the Department of Defense (DoD) estimated that most of the veterans’ radiation exposure was 0.2 to 0.12% less than the maximum radiation exposure limit,[30] which the VA cited as part of its decision to deny claims.[31] Furthermore, atomic veterans had to prove evidence of cancer within one year of being discharged.[32] Additionally, the servicemen were considered to have been working during “peacetime” and therefore were not eligible for disability and medical benefits.[33] As a result, the VA denied many claims of atomic veterans who tried to seek compensation for on-duty-related injuries from cleaning up nuclear sites or witnessing nuclear tests."
I am most grateful that you’ve shared your story. It delivers a painful reminder of the deception that lies ahead for most of us when we are at our most vulnerable. These ‘systems’ make deliberate and irreparable attacks on our dignity and self worth as we are forced to negotiate our way through the labyrinth of Faustian ‘healthcare’ providers.
I've heard many horror stories about the 'not a health care but a death-care system' in the U.S., but wow, a veteran no less, treated like nobody gives a damn. Because they don't, anywhere, not really, we are just the poor sods who carry history on our backs. Your husband is a fortunate man in a terrible situation, as he had you as an adovcate. I hope you keep making noise and that the costs are covered.
That’s atrocious. I believe there’s a similar rigmarole in NZ with veterans of the Vietnam war and agent orange related illness and deaths. Your government’s definitely do not care about you.
I'm so sorry this happened to you and your husband. My husband was in for 12 years, I would sit in the walk in clinic for hours, sobbing in pain from an infection for five hours, couldn't get into see a regular doctor for months, and this was just one base. I would tell everyone that would want government covered health care that they can't even take care of their military and their family, why would they suddenly be better when covering the whole country?
My brother in law is now dealing with the VA after a major stroke. 20 years, 4 deployments and a lost marriage and he can't even get them to cover his hospital care because he went to the wrong hospital as he was possibly dying.
It is not just the government. It is the corporations too. Truth is siege was laid to the citizens of the US since WWII and sadly most of us don't see it. Like the Indians of Manhattan Island we like the shininess of trinkets and beads, only now it is cell phones, computers and Starbucks.
My mom passed away 22 years ago after a Glioblastoma Multiforme Grade IV diagnosis made 19 months earlier. She was only 58. Coincidently she was first diagnosed while she was living in Westminster, CO. (Years prior we had lived in Boulder, and she was happy to be back in Colorado). I think her experience was what opened my eyes to the deficiencies in medical care that brought me to be skeptical of medicine and public health. It was the beginning of the period where patients through internet research could readily know more than many doctors. I have little to offer you other than giving my full attention to what you write. Thank you for remembering and writing.
My God, he was lucky to have you...
What a nightmare! Imagine what it would be like if government took over healthcare. Oh, wait a minute..........

Every time I see a homeless vet and think about 'refugees' being fast-tracked for housing I want to start REDACTED REDACTED.

Understanding the deception is useful. Thnx
I will reply again later. I have such a revulsion it how you and your husband were treated that I need to think about this. Oh my.
